I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD in second grade. Some people think it means you’re lazy or not trying, or that the words move around on the page, but that’s not really what happens. Having a reading disability does not mean that I’m not smart. It just takes me longer to get the words out right, and that can be super frustrating. Even the small words I still mess up.
It also makes school really hard some days. While other kids are already done with their work, I might still be stuck on the first question. Getting an IEP helped a lot because now I get extra time and read aloud and that makes school a lot easier. I get good grades now, just like everyone else. Hopefully when I am finished with tutoring reading and spelling will be easier.
